From Buttermere village the road rises steeply past a small church on the left and the long climb of Newlands Hause begins, 2km of 20% gradient it is a famous Lake District climb that carves its way through the mountains. With a final kick up of 25% the reward is a spectacular view down the valley. This original oil painting describes the climb and the drama of the valley, a reminder of the struggle.
