My First Solo Exhibition.
In September 2020 I took a deep breath, closed my laptop for the last time and left a 35 year career in the Food Industry. What followed was the realisation of a lifelong dream to immerse myself in art full time, to study for a degree in Fine Art. The following three years were filled with new experiences and experimentation and I began to arrive at a painting style that I enjoyed and working en plein air overlapped with my love of just being outside. I had exhibited work in cafe’s and as part of group shows but my first solo show, in a reasonably big space was a whole new proposition.
After a few weeks of painting and frame making I delivered the paintings To Bassetlaw Museum in Retford and left it to the experienced team there to hang the show.
On Saturday 22nd July 2023 we arrived to set up a drinks reception for invited guests. Walking into the room for the first time to see my work was a fairly emotional moment. It felt like the end of my degree and the beginning of being an artist. It made all my hard work worthwhile.
The reception went well, sold a few pictures, had lots of lovely comments and left really happy.
And that was it, the exhibition is launched and I am an artist and I need to go home and produce work and see where the next chapter of this new career takes me.
The show runs from 22nd July until 16th September 2023 at Bassetlaw Museum in Retford.
